Restringing
So you broke a string. Yikes!
What do I do now? Can it be fixed? Where can I go to get it done?
If it's your first time breaking strings, congratulations! You are well on your way to becoming a good tennis player! That also means you now have to figure out what to do so you can get back on the courts again.
Whether it's your first time, or your 1,000th time(yes, that is possible!), you need someone that can do a quality job every time. Here are the BEST of the BEST who can do it for you in San Francisco.

Golden State Tennis
Gordon at Golden State Tennis is great! He grew up playing tennis in San Francisco and has a lot of experience stringing racquets. He uses the Wilson Baiardo stringing machine. Turnaround is very quick, usually next day, with rush service available.

Sam the Stringer
Sam is probably the most well known and respected stringer in San Francisco. Sam is the official stringer of the Bank of the West WTA event at Stanford CA, and the KPSF ATP Challenger event at SFTC. Sam has also strung at the US Open, and all the pros know him because he's been stringing for 40+ years(since the wooden racquet days!). He is based at SFTC Bay Club, and he strings for everybody at the club. That does not mean he is exclusive to members of the club. If you call him up, he can probably help you out. |
Will Devine
Will is one of the best stringers in San Francisco! Will strings with Sam at the tournaments. He also strings for the Stanford University Women's Tennis Team, and the St. Ignatius Boy's Tennis Team. Most recently, he has strung with the Wilson String Team at The US Open and The French Open. Will has been stringing for 30+ years, so he has the experience. You won't find his info online, because he's old-school(phone ONLY, no internet). He does mainly referrals, so if you want his phone # you can email: info@tennisinsf.com. |
City Racquet Shop
I would recommend going to a Tennis Pro Shop like City Racquet Shop, so you can speak with somebody knowledgeable to help you with what type(s) of string(s) to use, and at what tension. The owners are AWESOME and they know their stuff. They use the Babolat Star 5 stringing machine, which is an electronic, constant-pull stringing machine. It is also the stringing machine the top stringers use on both the ATP and WTA tour, so you’re in good hands. They can also help you with other racquet related maintenance jobs like re-gripping your racquet, replacing bumper guards, adding lead tape, etc. |
